- A student is in his bedroom working having trouble with an assignment. Due to this, he is contemplating dropping the course. Off-screen, his father hears the commotion.
- "Professor, due to technical errors I will be unable to complete the essay by the due date. If possible, could I have an extension? Thank you, Larry Ramsay"That will work.
- The language is one of intimacy. The student is unlikely to speak to anyone else about these issues and use aggression than someone they are close to.
- "I think we can make that work. Will two days extra be a sufficient amount? Thank you for the notice, Professor Wagley."

- The student, after taking time to calm down, is to email his teacher from his room still. The person in which he will be speaking is his professor over email.
- The register used between the two is formal. It is often used when speaking to a colleague or someone you are not as close with to convey a certain seriousness or respect.
- The relationship between the two is that of teacher and student. They must speak in a way that is respectful to each other and lacks much personal touch.
