- 1942Bruno is moving to a smaller house away from all his friends, and he doesn't want to go.
- "I don't want to go!"
- "It's for dad's work."
- 1943Bruno is walking along a fence and meets Shmuel who is a skinny, quiet Jewish boy.
- "Hello, I'm Bruno."
- "I'm Shmuel."
- "You're my best friend, Shmuel. My best friend for life."
- 1944Shmuel and Bruno go look for Shmuel's lost father, however, they are marched into a gas chamber and presumably die.
- "We must cleanse our society of Jewish people!"
- 1933Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor in 1933 to the Nazi party. The Nazis believed that some people are greater than others. Hitler believed in the Aryan race which he thought was the idea of a perfect person. Specifically, he thought the Jews were horrible people who sought to take over the world. This is why Hitler started the Holocaust.
- 1940Auschwitz opened in 1940 and was the largest concentration and death camp used by the Nazis. The Boy in a Striped Pajamas takes place at Auschwitz.
- "Don't say a word!"
- "Keep moving!"

- 1942At Auschwitz, in 1942, a second gas chamber, Bunker II, is made operational due to the increased number of Jews arriving.
- "I hope we are all going to be okay."
- "It will be alright"
