  • The teacher will gather the students on the carpet to prepare them for the play activity. She will explain the activity and instruct the learners accordingly.
  • Good morning, children please gather on the carpet.
  • The teacher explains that they are going to play a story telling game. She will read the first 3 pages of the book and they will then go around in a circle to create the rest of the story.
  • This book is called "The Crocodile's Knobbly Skin" by Andrea Florens and Claire Norden. I will read the first few pages, then we'll create our own ending.
  • The teacher reads the first few pages and show the learners the illustrations as she reads.
  • "One evening the moon was as big and round as it could be, shining so brightly that nothing was hidden by the night. "
  • The learners begin to add their a sentence each of what they think happens in the rest of the story.
  • " was not long before an owl flew past, and seeing this gleaming object, he stopped to take a look. Owl's big round eyes grew even wider." What do you think happens next, Lexie?
  • Yes, teacher. He was looking at a big crocodile laying on the ground. He had never seen anything like it.
  • He sits on the crocodile's head to see if he is awake. He doesn't know that the crocodile has big, sharp teeth.
  • They continue to add to the story based on the previous learner's sentence. The teacher will ask them why they think that is what happened next, based on the first few pages they read and saw.
  • The crocodile is still and has bumpy skin. Owl moves closer to get an even better look.
  • You're next, Lebo then you , Tashi.
  • The last learner has to come up with an ending for the story. The teacher can then read the rest of the book with children and discuss the read ending and their ending, taking into account how they interpreted the pictures and added to each other's sentences.
  • Crocodile opens his mouth and takes a big bite but owl flies away just in time. Not only is Crocodile's skin bumpy but his bite his ugly!
