- Plants need the Carbon Dioxide we breathe out in order to perform photosynthesis. Us humans need the oxygen biproduct from photosynthesis to breathe and to perform cellular respiration. We do it ALL of the time at the cellular level. But what is cellular respiration?

- Fermentation- Fermentation is a different kind of respiration. It turns the pyruvate (broken down glucose) and turns it into something like lactic acid or alcohol. This allows it to skip the krebs cycle.
- Cellular Respiration- This is when breathe in the oxygen (by-product of photosynthesis) and consume the glucose (by-product of photosynthesis) and we turn it into ATP energy for our use, and CO2 as a biproduct. There are 3 steps to respiration.
- Oxygen+ glucose
- CO2+ water+ ATP energy
- 1. Glycolysis: Glucose broken into pyruvate2. krebs cycle: Pyruvate into CO2 and electron containing molecules3. Electron transport chain- those molecules are used to produce ATP
- Because heterotrophs (animals) rely on autotrophs (plants) to live and vice versa, we can maintain a balanced ecosystem.
