- Castro and Santamara received 15 years in prison each for their failed attempt at ousting Batista. Nevertheless, Batista made a serious error by releasing them along with the other rebels after just six months. They came together again in Mexico, where Castro and Che Guevara plotted the July 26th movement, their next assault.
- Fidel Castro here. I'm upset with Fulgencio Batista because his soldiers halted the nomination when I ran for the House of Representatives of Cuba and ceased democratic values there.

- Batista left the country after the rebels gained victory. This alarmed the United States because Batista was a big fan of the country. Though Castro had insisted throughout the revolution that he was not a communist, they weren't overly concerned.
