  • Here, I am standing by a hut which is made up of many resources such as logs, heavy stone, and mud
  • Farming
  • In these farmlands, the Olmec grew beans, rice, squash, tomato, nuts, maize, and sweet potatoes
  • The Olmec traded beans and salt for important resources like jade, obsidian, and volcanic glass. This was important because it was used for protection and without protection, they wouldn't be able to have a secure civilization
  • Trade
  • The Olmec settled in the lowlands of Mesoamerica. They built their houses with resources such as heavy stone, clay, and logs. They dug holes in the ground to store their foods.
  • Art
  • The Olmec were gifted artists who made many works of art to many many purposes, like honoring their gods
  • The Olmec grew many crops such as beans, squash, rice, maize, tomatoes, nuts, and sweet potatoes.

  • The Olmec used many weapons like obsidian knives, clay, stone, wood, bones, and deer antlers. They used these weapons when they were in war with nearby neighbors or were trying to hunt food.
  • The Olmec believed in many gods who controlled the natural forces of life. They also believed that the Olmec dragon watches upon them from the sky.
  • The Olmec traded salt for beans with their neighbors in exchange for jade, obsidian, or volcanic glass.

  • The Olmec expressed their emotions in many ways, one including, art. They did many different types of art such as wood carvings, stone carvings, and cave paintings.
  • For tools, the Olmec used whatever was at hand such as clay, stone, bone, wood, or deer antlers. If they had obsidian, they would make sharp knives out of it and it would make an excellent source of protection.
  • The Olmec believed in 8 gods. The Olmec Dragon, the Monster Bird, the Shark Monster, the Banded-Eye god, the Maize god, the Rain Spirit, the Were-Jaguar, and the Feathered Serpant.
