  • A giraffe natural selection comic strip
  • Natural selection is a process by which a species changes over time in response to changes in the environment , or competition between organisms, in order for the species to survive . intense competition among individuals of the same species to survive will lead to favourable variations would be preserved, and unfavourable ones destroyed.
  • A great example of natural selection is the growth of giraffe's neck
  • Giraffes have always been known for having long necks. But they didn't always have that. Over time, the giraffe's neck has grown upon generation and evolved to help them feed. Here is how the giraffe contributes to natural election.
  • A long time ago, there were giraffes the size of deers and with shorter sized necks. Over time there was a Mutation which lead to some giraffes having longer necks.
  • The giraffes with shorter necks were at more competition for food as that was all they could reach while the giraffes with longer necks could get more food.
  • Natural selection is seen in giraffes as Individuals with more favourable variations are more likely to survive and pass them on. As these individuals contribute proportionately more offspring to succeeding generations, the favourable variations will become more common
  • Over time the giraffes with longer necks continued to be passed down to their offspring because they could live longer because there was less competition for food.
  • That is natural selection
