  • Goodafternoon, My name is Anusha Kanwar and I am a English naturalist, geologist and biologist! I am best known for my contributions to the science of evolution. In which I will be guiding you through my Theory of Natural Selection today!! So, buckle up kids for this long journey!!
  • Natural Selection
  • “It is not the strongest or the most clever of the species that survives; it is the one that is most adaptable to change,” I concluded. This was the natural selection hypothesis, which said that creatures that are more suited to their surroundings are more likely to survive and reproduce more offspring.
  • Wait miss before we begin, what is natural selection and what is your famous theroy?
  • Rhinos' heads are adorned with enormous horns. Some individuals have always possessed horns for self-defense, but those who did not have them were slain by predators. As a result, only those with horns remained, which explains why they all have horns now!
  • Why do rhinos have horns?
  • Are horns an inherited trait miss?
  • The gene/trait that provides self defense for the rhinos is the horn. The better adapted rhinos pass on the gene/trait that provides them the defensive horn. So these traits are heritable. This explains heritability.
  • Yes, you've figured it out. The huge horns provide the organism with protection and safety. Rhinos with horns have a reproductive advantage, while rhinos without horns have a disadvantage.
  • Does that mean Rhinos have a higher reproduction rate?
  • The fact that some rhinos have this distinct appearance adds to the population's diversity. Only a small percentage of the population has the horn, while others do not. This is an example of natural selection
