The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

- YOU'RE BED IS IN THERE.
- Charlotte Doyle is coming back to Rhode Island from England from a boarding school. She is coming back to her family on a ship called the Seahawk. The captain's name is Captain Jaggery.
- Charlotte's bed is a tiny room where she has to duck to get inside. There are bugs and roaches in her bed. As Jaggery shows Charlotte her bed, an unoticed person slips onto the ship.
- Charlotte meets an old sailor named Zachariah. He tells a story about someone named Cranick, and how he had tried to overpower Jaggery when he was a crew member. He had failed. At first Charlotte does not want to know Zachariah, or be friends with him.
- To Charlotte, Captain Jaggery seems to be kind and a gentleman, but Zachariah says he's evil. Charlotte now doesn't trust Zachariah. Eventually Charlotte learns to trust Zachariah and becomes friends with him.
- The man who Zachariah spoke of unexpectedly came running out onto the deck with a gun. Jaggery fought back with his own gun and shot Cranick in the chest, killing him. Zachariah wants to give the dead Cranick his own ritual and funeral, but Captain Jaggery refuses. When Zachariah argues, Captain Jaggery orders him to be whipped.
- Jaggery whips Zachariah until he is dead.
- At Zachariah's funeral, Charlotte is really angry and sad. Everyone is angry at her for being responsible for killing Zachariah.
- Charlotte decides to become a member of the crew for protection from Captian Jaggery. She must pass a test of climbing to the top of the mast. She almost dies in the process., but manages to succeed!
- Captain Jaggery intentionally gives Charlotte dangerous and impossible jobs to complete that almost kill her. He is trying to get rid of Charlotte.
- WHO HAS DONE THIS?!?
- Hollybrass, Captian Jaggery's first mate, is murdered. The murder weapon was Charlotte's dirk. Jaggery and his crew accuse Charlotte and lock her in the ship's hold.
- Charlotte's murder trial begins. Jaggery catches her in a lie and rules that she is guilty of killing Hollybrass. She is sentenced to be hanged.
- Charlotte is put back into the hold where she hears the voice of Zachariah. They devise a plan to steal Jaggery's guns and kill him before he can hang Charlotte.
- Captain Jaggery catches Charlotte trying to steal his guns. He then chases Charlotte onto the bow of the ship with a pistol. He falls off and dies. The crew names Charlotte the new captain of the Seahawk.

- Charlotte gets back home to Rhode Island and her family treats her like a proper lady, unlike how she lived on the Seahawk. She doesn't appreciate it and wants to go back to sailor life.
- One night Charlotte sneaks out of the house and back onto the Seahawk as the captain to sail once again.
