  • Long time no see! How is your child now? Does he still go to speech therapy for the delay?
  • Yes he has been improving a lot! We had a great therapist that corrects my myth and I feel so relieved! He now can tell a story!
  • Oh dear! I am sorry for what you have been through. I heard that autism is never cured, and he will never have friends. It is tough for you to handle your child, I know he will not play or engage with another child, but it means you must be with him all the time. When I saw him the first time, he did not respond to me or make eye contact, I could sense it was the early stage of autism. And when you said he goes to speech therapy weekly, I felt so bad for not warning you about it.
  • Hmm ... When we met her he was only 2 months old ... So lucky my therapist gave me lots of informatiion about this myth ...
  • It is common for parents to be confused between speech delay/late talker and autism. He did not respond you because he was only 2 month old, now he will respond when called, autism often do not respond to name. Autism rarely points to show an objects, but late talkers do. Speech delay is a typical manner, but with a delayed time frame. It is not autism as myth that we "heard" a lot.
  • No. I used to think like you and worried, but after seeing the therapist the myth is debunked. He has normal eye contact, and engaged in pretend play, he makes friends and also be a leader! While autism children reduced use of non-verbal communication, late talker still use facial expression and gesture. Late talker like my son understand things and say it first, meanwhile autism say more than they understand.
