  • Can you help me journey through the digestive system kid? I'll make it worth your while :)
  • We start with the mouth a key part of the Digestive System! The mouth is the place where food enters and gets chewed for easier transport across the body. It also enlists the help of the Salivary glands which help give taste to the food
  • After the food falls down the Esophagus. it goes into the Stomach. We can also see the Liver and Gallbladder. The liver is an organ about the size of a football. It sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. The liver is essential for digesting food and ridding your body of toxic substances. Liver disease can be inherited (genetic).
  • The small intestine has three parts: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. It helps to further digest food coming from the stomach. It absorbs nutrients (vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and water from food so they can be used by the body. The small intestine is part of the digestive system.
  • The large intestine is the portion of the digestive system most responsible for absorption of water from the indigestible residue of food. The ileocecal valve of the ileum (small intestine) passes material into the large intestine at the cecum.
  • The anus is the opening where the gastrointestinal tract ends and exits the body. The anus starts at the bottom of the rectum, the last portion of the colon (large intestine). The anorectal line separates the anus from the rectum. Tough tissue called fascia surrounds the anus and attaches it to nearby structures.
