  • Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none.
  • Succeeding a battle in Scotland, Macbeth alongside his close friend Banquo meet three witches who make three prophecies for their future: Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth will be King and Banquo's son Fleance will be King.
  • Methought I heard a voice cry 'Sleep no more!Macbethdoes murder sleep.
  • Lady Macbeth receives a letter stating the three witches prophecies. She instantly becomes overjoyed about her and her husbands future and starts to plot plans to make these prophecies become true more quickly (killing King Duncan.)
  • Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both have the intentions of killing Duncan when Macbeth becomes Thane Of Cawdor. For Lady Macbeth her husband being the Thane Of Cawdor is not enough and he needs to become King. However, Macbeth begins to get cold feet on this situation and has second thoughts.
  • You, Banquo's ghost, cannot accuse me of killing you.
  • One evening, King Duncan is staying at Macbeths castle Inverness which offers the Macbeths the opportunity to carry out the murder to make Macbeth King. Macbeth begins by drugging both chamberlains before stabbing Duncan numerous times. He then faces a period of pure shock and partial regret due to what he's done and returns to Lady Macbeth will two bloody knives. Lady Macbeth is infuriated by what she sees and immediately grasps both knives, placing one in each of the chamberlains hands (making it look as if they had committed the crime.)
  • Although Banquo will never wear the crown, his descendants will (according to the three witches) . This means that Macbeth's children will not inherit the throne. Macbeth fears that Banquo will turn on him in order to establish his own children in the line of inheritance and therefore murders Banquo and attempts to kill his family.
  • Proceeding the murder of Banquo, his ghost later appears to haunt Macbeth at the banquet during Act 3, Scene 4. Macbeths petrified by his presence, whilst others around him believe he's simply going mad as they are unable to see this ghost.
