- Hi, I am Zacharias Janssen. I am from the Netherlands, and in the early 1600s I made the first compound microscope. My invention became very popular, and soom everyone wanted to try the microscope.
- Hi, I am Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, another Dutch scientist. I decided to make my own microscope after I heard of Janssen's invention. I used my microscope to look at everything and discovered bacteria from looking at gunk on my teeth. He called the bacteria 'animalcules'. He consulted with Robert Hooke, an English scientist, about his discoveries.
- Hello, I am Robert Hooke. My dear friend showed me what he found under the microscope called animalcules but I believe that they look very similar to cell rooms. I relabeled his animalcules to be called cells.
- My name is Matthias Schleiden. I am a botanist from Germany. I utilized the microscopes to look at plants and I discovered that each plant is made of cells.
- Greetings! My name is Theodor Schwann. I found that all animals are made of cells. I contacted other scientists to begin the Cell Theory.
