- Yes my friend. The greater the frequency, the higher the quality of the sound, which is defined as the number of times per second the sound was sampled. The frequency is typically set in practise at one of several fixed values, most frequently 11KHz, 22KHz, and 44KHz. 44 kHz is the norm for audio compact CDs, although 22 kHz is fairly widespread in computer sound file formats.

- The second format is Bit Depth. The sum of a mono, uncompressed sound file's sampling rate, bit depth, and duration determines its size. It will be twice as much in stereo. For instance, a 16 bit, 44 KHz, uncompressed sound file from a CD will be roughly 10.5 Mb in size per minute.
- Ohh I see. So, I think the fourth format is regards the Lossiness of Compression. Am I correct ?
- Yeah. WAV, a Microsoft standard, and AU, predominantly a UNIX-based format, AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format), primarily used on Macs and SGIs, and streaming formats like RealAudio are the most popular sound formats found on the Web.
- Encoding uses a fair amount more CPU power than decoding, though. On computers that are slower than a Pentium or an equivalent, MP3 playback is not advised.
- Yes Riya. Without audible loss of sound quality, MP3 can compress a 44 kHz, 16-bit stereo WAV file to around 12:1; significantly higher compression rates are possible, but at the expense of worse sound quality.
