  • Hi! I am Ray Bradbury and today I'm going to show you what I was criticizing and the theme of some of my stories in my book, "The Illustrated Man".
  • The Exiles
  • Don't tell us that, Edgar Allan Poe! They come to destroy the remaining copies of our books.
  • In "The Exiles" I wanted to criticize the censorship and how the authors and the people suffer from the incapacity to inform themselves or read different opinions, being imposed to an ideological dictatorship against the diversity of thoughts.
  • I think that a rocket form Earth has just landed, we are not safe anymore!
  • The ConcreteMixer
  • MmmMmm...Ok, I agree to work for you in your movie.
  • Would you like to work for me as an adviser for my new movie about Martian conquest?
  • In "The Concrete Mixer" the theme is anti-imperialism, anti-globalism and the cultural conquest of other territories. The variety of cultures is what makes humanity rich and beautiful!
  • The Fox and the Forest
  • In "The Fox and the Forest" I wanted to talk about immigration and the search for a better quality of life and how this is a reality in real life. Clearly in this case the protagonists migrate in time to past as it gives the science fiction and futurism that my stories always have!
  • I think the police is chasing us back to our time. Back to the nuclear apocalypse!
  • Even though my themes are very varied, from loneliness and betrayal to censorship and anti-imperialism, they have in common that they are themes with a strong impact and consequences in the present real life. My stories always have some background value or idea and it is important to analyze them to have a better understanding of the plot, the characters but also ideas I write about.
  • As you may see, I usually write about important themes in my stories without forgetting the futurism, science fiction, character development and plot in each of them.
  • Now that you know this you will be able to read and understand better, not only these three stories or the book of "The Illustrated Man", but in general any story wrote by me or any other author. Always remember to have a critical mind when thinking about the ideas and themes of any story. See you next!
