  • Step 1: The Creation of the Bill (Idea)
  • I have an idea
  • Well, contact your local representative
  • Step 2: The Bill is Proposed and Introduced
  • Hand it to the committee for discussion
  • Step 3: The Bill goes to Committee and is Debated
  • This is a great idea
  • We should vote
  • At first, a citizen or representative will have an idea for a law. The citizen would have to contact their local representative and they will decide whether it is a good idea. If they agree they will research and write the idea into a bill.
  • Step 4: The Bill Is Voted On
  • Nay
  • Once the bill has been written by a Representative, it will then need a sponsor. After the bill has a sponsor and support of Representatives, they can move the bill onto the HOR and the Speaker of the House will send it to a committee.
  • Step 5: The Bill Is Referred to the Senate
  • A committee is a group of Representatives that are experts in that particular idea. The committee after receiving the bill they go over it, researches, and corrects any flaws before deciding to send it back to the House floor or not. Then the bill is voted on.
  • Step 6: The Bill Is Sent to the President
  • I shall decide whether to make this a law or veto
  • The House of Representatives has two ways of voting on a bill in question. The first method they say "aye" or no". Aye, for if they agree with the bill, no if they disagree. The second method they ask the Representatives that agree with the bill to stand and be counted and the same for those who disagree. If a majority says yes it moves to the Senate.
  • Yea
  • Yea
  • Once at the Senate it will go through pretty much the same things it did in the House. Talked about in a committee for the Senate then passed on to the Senate Floor to vote on. They will vote by voice. Saying yea or nay for whichever they pick. If the majority wins it goes to the president.
  • Move it on to the Pres.
  • Let's vote!
  • The President will have three options to choose from. First he can sign and make it a law. Second, he can veto the bill then gets sent back to the House. If the House and Senate think it still should be a law they will revote. 2 thirds majority vote means the veto is overridden and it becomes a law. His third option is to just do nothing and it will become a law after 10 days if he does nothing with it.
