- Medusa was one of three Gorgon sisters. The mortal among them, was praised for her great beauty, especially for her hair. Many men lusted for her but she remained pure to stay the priestess to the virgin goddess of wisdom and battle, Athena. Medusa was often compared to Athena, and resulted in Athena growing envious of Medusa's beauty.

- Poseidon, the god of the sea, lusted for Medusa but was rejected multiple times as she wished to remain the priestess and must remain a virgin. Poseidon had a conflict with Athena and saw Medusa as a possession he could take from her. He decided to take her by force.

- Medusa asked Athena to protect her but Athena ignored her plea. Medusa prayed to Athena for forgiveness and guidance after Poseidon vanished. Athena was in rage that Medusa wasn't a virgin anymore and decided to punish her instead of Poseidon.

- Athena cursed Medusa and turned her hair into venomous snakes. Anyone who looked at Medusa would turn to stone.
- Word spread of the monster Medusa became and lived on until Perseus, son of Zeus, killed her by cutting off her head. Perseus used her head to defeat enemies.
