- The Captian is in charge of Eddie in the war. To give Eddie hope, the Captian says he will not let no man behind. The captain stays with his tr promise of being captured with the rest of his men.
- The Captain shoots one of his own army men, Eddie, to actually save him. The bullet in Eddie's leg has affected him his whole life, and immediately after the Captain explains that he is the cause of his disability, Eddie was furious.
- The Captian has managed to talk Eddie down from his anger by explaining that everyone in life makes sacrifices big or small. In Eddie's case, the choice was either sacrifice his leg or life. After Eddie forgives the captain, they both see the Captians heaven (Life without War).
