- The old man had a pale blue eye.
- I must get rid of that eye!
- Could you fetch me some tea?
- The narrator sneaks into the old man's room.
- The old man and the narrator lived together a long time ago, but the narrator was terrified of the old man's eyes.
- The old man wakes up.
- The old man had one pale blue eye with a film over it, it drove the narrator into an insane vexed feeling whenever he saw it.
- The narrator killed & hid the old man's body.
- Every night, the narrator would sneak into the old man's room and slowly let a small ray of light from a lantern fall on the old man's face to see if his eye is open.
- The cops show up.
- On the 8th night, the narrator made a noise and woke the old man up. After an hour, when the narrator saw his eyes, he heard the old man's heartbeat and lunged at him. The narrator immediately killed the old man before he could do anything.
- There came a knock at the door after the narrator killed and concealment the old man's body. The cops were called after the neighbors heard the screams, but the insane narrator said the cry was from a nightmare and brought them inside, thinking he had carefully planned the crime.
- Soon the narrator started to hear a thumping noise. Soon it got louder and louder. He realized it was a heartbeat, the beat of the dead old man's heart. He couldn't stand it getting louder and louder. He felt awe so he screamed out and yelled that he had killed the old man.
