- Mr Jones owns a farm called 'Manor farm'. However, he is drunken and does not take care of his animals properly.
- A respected boar, Old Major, calls a meeting to the barn so he can tell the other animals about his dream of living on the farm with no suffering or cruelty. Old Major also teaches them the song 'Beasts of England' which they sing repetitively.
- Eventually Mr Jones hears the singing of 'Beasts of Engalnd'. He grabs his gun and fires it from his bedroom window thinking there is a fox in the yard.
- Three nights later Old Major end up dying, his body gets buried.
- During the next 3 months the animals planned their rebbelion with the 3 pigs, Napolean, Snowball and Squeler being in charge. This is because pigs were known to be the cleverest animals on the farm. The pigs gave the name of 'Animalism' to Old major's teachings.
- The rebellion occurs one night when Jones neglects the animals. The animals break into the store-shed looking for food. When Jones and his men arrive a fight breaks out. In the end the animals win and destroy all traces of Jones. They also create the Seven Commandments of Animalism.
