- Johnny feels like everyone is against him and he doesn't have anyone to vent to. Character vs. Society
- Pony boy and Johnny decide to leave town because Johnny just killed one of the socs and if they get caught then they could be sentenced to death. On page 62 Dally says, "Take care kid." This means a lot to pony boy because Dally is a big part of pony boys life.
- Because Johnny had killed one of the socs, they had to run. But a big part of their escape was to get as much food and water as they needed before the news broke out and everyone was on the look for Johnny.
