James Madison wanted to stop working as a single group and wanted more people to join. He then asked congress to declare war on Great Britain on June 18 1812. He did while while he only had an army of 7,000 men who weren't trained good and only 16 ships in the Navy.
Sea battles
The Native Americans land were being taken away from them as settlers were moving onto it leading the Indians to have problems with them. A chief named Tecumseh and his brother gathered other Indian tribes to try and fight back. On November 7th 1811, William Henry Harrison went to war with them.
The Battles of New Orelands.
In August 1814, another British army invaded the Washing D.C. They burned down a lot of buildings, even the Capitol and White house. Then the British attacked the port city of Baltimore, Maryland. On September 13th the British bombarded Fort McHenry. It continued all night.
Results of the War
In 1812-1814 U.S forces tried to cross into Canada but the British forces pushed them back. Then William Henry pushed to the upper side of Canada where he won against the British. The Chief Tecumseh who was on the British side, was killed. By 1814, Napoleon lost in Europe. Thousands of troops were sent to conquer Canada.
The British surrendered to the U.S forces after the battle of Lake Champlain in New York. While that news traveled around, the British commanders in the U.S. made another invasion, this time, New Orleans. New Orleans was defeated by an army of 7,000 that included some pirates, Indians and African Americans.
Both sides claimed the win, but neither Great Britain or The Americans won the War of 1812. The treaty of Ghent didn't help any of the issues on why there was the war. Peace settled over Europe. The next 20 years, the U.S government would force most of American Indians who fought with Tecumseh out of Ohio Valley.
