- Chapter 1
- 'Mr Jones, of the Manor farm, had locked the hen-houses for the night, but was too drunk to remember to shut the pop-holes.'
- 'Old Major the prize middle white boar, had had a strange dream and wished to communicate it to the other animals all the animals. It was agreed that they should all meet in the big barn...'

- Chapter 2
- As all the animals settled down inside the barn Old Major started to recite what happened in his dream, it was a dream about Animalism and about the future of the animals on the farm without humans. They finished by singing 'Beasts of England'
- 3 days later Old Major died and was buried at the foot of the orchard. But Old Major had given the more intelligent animals a new outlook on life and had sparked a rebellion.
- The pigs were elected as natural leaders and they were Snowball and Napoleon (The fierce looking one) they had elaborated Old Majors teaching into a whole way of thought and the seven commandments of animalism:
- Then the animals went and harvested all the crops while the pigs milked the cows. However, after all the crops had been harvested the animals noticed that the milk had disappeared.
