  • Some say the world will end in fire,Some say in ice.From what I’ve tasted of desireI hold with those who favor fire.But if it had to perish twice,I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction iceIs also greatAnd would suffice.

  •  The poem has a stanza and nine lines; The rhyme scheme: ABA ABC BCB; In the two first lines we have an anaphora: "Some say" and, rhymes in the end lines; We have in general patterns sounds Iambic tetrameter:some say / the world / will end / in fire OR I think / I know / e nough / of hate; On the eighth line we have an enjambment; We don't know if the speaker is a manor a woman, but he knows that, according to his point of view, he/she is inside apoem because he issues opinions in what way he prefers the end of the earth.
  • LANGUAGE
  • How the speaker prefers the end of all earthly life is linked to his/her emotions.
  • EFFECT
  • There is an auditory imagery on the first and second lines because the speaker claims to have heard of the end of the earth by fire. Then, the speaker uses the gustatory imagery when saying in the 3rd line that he experienced the desire; however, the poem in general can be considered the tactile imagery, as the speaker says at each moment that he felt fire and ice, thus, desire and hate, respectively.
  • There is symbolism as a figure of language in which desire and hate are fire and ice, respectively.
  • The speaker reveals dark emotions of the human beingin which for him both hatred and desire are capable of destroying life on earthand the speaker can affirm this from his own experience.
