  • what?...
  • The next morning, Mr. and Mrs. White make breakfast, and Herbert goes to work. Soon after, a messenger from Maw and Meggins, Herbert's work, comes and informs Mr. and Mrs. White that Herbert got caught up in machinery and died. The messenger gives them 200 pounds to try and compensate for their loss. Mr. White realizes That in order for the wish to come true, his son would die.
  • Resolution
  • After burying the son's body, Mrs. White realizes that they've only used one wish and can use the paw to wish their son alive again. Mrs. White yells until Mr. White finds the paw and wishes, and after nothing happens, they go back to bed. Later that night, they hear someone knocking on the front door. Mrs. White runs to the door, convinced that it's her son, and tries to undo all the locks while Mr. White is crawling on the ground to find the paw that he dropped earlier.
  • Where is the Paw!!
  • Mr. White realizes that whatever is knocking on the door is not their son, and crawls around frantically to find the paw. Mrs. White asks him to help her with the final lock on the door that she can't reach, but gets impatient and starts dragging a chair towards the door. Mr. White finds the paw just before Mrs. White can get the door open. Mr. White whispers something to the paw just as Mrs. White gets the door open.
  • When Mrs. White opens the door, she stares out into nothingness, confused. Mr. White wished for Herbert to be dead again, knowing that the thing knocking was not Herbert.
