- dad im hungry!
- I know son. Im trying to figure out a way to get money for food tonight.
- narrator: Mcfly grew up in a very poor household. where they often did not know when their meal was coming.
- narrator: not having any other option. McFlys dad set out to go rob the neighbors house for some quick cash.
- narrator: he was only gone for a short amount of time. so when he returned home with 20 bucks and some food, the boys were curious to where he had gotten this money.
- Now McFly, it is only okay to take from others if no one is hurt in the process. Its not like I want to steal from the Johnsons, its just that I need to make sure you are healthy and fed.
- well I mean... I guess that makes sense. They won't mind a missing 20 out of their wallet.
- next time mcflys dad set out to borrow from the neighbors. he was met by a police officer where he was handcuffed and taken to the station to await court.
- YOU ARE UNDER ARREST! AND I DONT WANT TO HEAR ANY EXCUSES! GET IN THE CAR!
- narrator: McFlys dad awaited trial until finally the day came. He went up to the judge and told him his reasoning for stealing. Luckily for him and unluckily for his son, the judge showed empathy and let him off easy. This form of compassion enforced McFlys belief that not all crime has a punishment. This did not deter him from leading a life of crime just as his father did.
- wow! dad actually got let off! maybe the punishment for crime isn't as severe as everyone thinks it is!
- narrator: growing up McFly always had a harder time in school than the rest of his classmates did.
- nothing the teacher is saying makes any sense. why do all of the other kids have an easier time than I do in here?
- I got held back again! This is going to be my third time in the seventh grade. There has got to be some kind of test to figure out what is going on.
- narrator: McFly asked his mom to take him to the doctor to get his IQ tested so that he could finally have some answers.
- honey Im sure everything will be okay! Your IQ score is going to be perfectly fine!
- so kiddo the results came back and show that you have a low IQ score. would you mind if I talked to your mom one on one to tell her more about it?
- yes sir, I will go get my mom.
- narrator: the doctor explained to McFlys mom that there is research showing that low intelligence test scores can predict future criminal behavior.
- its not 100% but I just wanted to give you a heads up so you can keep a close eye on him. Im so sorry to tell you this.
- narrator: Growing up McFly and his mother were best friends. He was attached to the hip to her and wanted to learn all that she could teach him.
- narrator: then came a day where it was time to teach McFly about the right VS wrong in the world. A conversation his mom was not looking forward to.
- Son, right and wrong is based entirely on what kind of morals you live by. Everyones life looks differently and everyone has to do different thing in order to survive. You must understand this.
