Once there lived two artists Sue and Jonesy in a flat, for quite a while Jonesy was suffering from pneumonia, the doctors were giving her sufficient treatment even she was getting cured physically but not mentally
Sue, maybe the god doesn't want me to be alive anymore, I'll die
Oh Jonesy my dear, cheer up, you are getting cured, please don't feel depressed.
That evening Jonesy was still on the bed and counting backwards, Sue heard it ran to Jonesy
I was just waiting when I'll die, when the last leaf falls from that tree, I'll die
What happened Jonesy dear why are counting backwards
Sue was very sad with Jonesy's behavior, so she decided to talk about Jonesy with Berman an old man also the owner of the flat and also an artist
So this has happened.
Thank you Mr. Berman
Ah! how stupid, She has left all her hopes on that leaf, look Miss Sue I'll surely do something about this soon.
By late evening all the leaves had fallen except one, there were heavy rains that night. So Jonesy thought that the last leaf would fall in the rain, she was sitting with Sue and was talking with her when suddenly she realized something
Oh Jonesy! you finally realized it, thank god, ok now I'll bring some soup for you, drink it and sleep peacefully and wake up tomorrow
Sue, I think I've been a fool till now, I left all my hopes on that leaf, it was so silly, I've realised my mistake, I think I'll get cured soon
Ok
After two weeks Jonesy recovered completely, she was as cheerful and happy as before. One day she was painting when Sue came to her and told her the bad news that Mr. Berman had passed away two weeks ago, but due to Jonesy's condition, Sue couldn't tell her the day he passed away.
Actually the last leaf had fallen that evening before the rain itself, But Mr. Berman stood all night in the rain and painted a leaf such that when seen from far it looked like a leaf on the tree, When the Janitor saw Berman he was all drenched and shivering, he got a sudden hyperthermia attack and died on spot, after a little funeral ceremony, the servants cremated the old man
Oh God! Why did you take away Mr. Berman, he gave up his life for me, he taught me a lesson not to loose hopes, god bless his heart, May he rest in peace forever
