  • 3rd Estate
  • During the time of the French Revolution there was much diversity and unfairness between the estates in France. The estates were made up of different classes in French society. The first estate being the clergy, the second being the nobility, and the third being everyone else, including farmers, doctors and lawyers. One of the reasons of the French Revolution is that unfair taxes were imposed on the population. However, the first two estates were almost untouched by tax and the third estate payed all the tax. This got many people upset at the way thing were.
  • 1st Estate
  • 2nd Estate
  • During this time, the 1st and 2nd estates cared very little about the 3rd estate, and proceeded to enjoy themselves while the rest of France was very poor. King Louis XVI was the King of France at the time, and thought to tax the poor and reap all the benefits to continue throwing lavish parties which was an example of wasteful spending
  • King Louis and his wife, Marie Antoinette, were seen as weak to the 3rd estate. Because of this, propaganda beganto spread about the couple which publicly humiliated them. This also affected the chain of command in France which lead to riots outside on the city streets.
  • Because of these problems, the 3rd estate turned to Enlightenment, which defied the ideals that a king is required
