- Descartes wrote several books on philosophy. In 1649 at the request of Queen Christina of Sweden, he moved to Stockholm to teach her philosophy. The queen made him rise at 5:00 in the morning for the lessons. He was used to sleeping late, and the waking time resulted in him catching pneumonia and dying.
