  • That's a great question Macey. Before I began to tell you how it was formed you should know there are three parts of the cell theory. All organisms are composed of one or more cells. Cells are the basic unit for structure and function. Lastly, cells come from preexisting cells.
  • Mr. Jones, what is the cell theory, and how was it formed?
  • First we will start with the English man who discovered the rotation of Jupiter. Robert Hooke, the man who coined the word cell. While looking at a cork under a microscope, he thought it looked like little jail cells, and coined the word cell that we use today.
  • I came up with the word cell, don't let anyone tell you differently!
  • Next, we will take a look at Robert Brown, the Scottish botanist. Robert brown was the man who discovered the nucleus! He also pioneered the use of a microscope in botany.
  • I discovered the nucleus which helped put together the cell theory!

  • Now, we are going to learn about the German anatomy professor Theodor Schwann. Schwann's role in helping form the cell theory was he found all animal tissues are composed of cells.
  • His tissues are composed of cells!
  • Macey, second to last we are going to look at the other German man Matthias Schleiden. Schleiden contributed to the cell theory was he discovered that all plants are made of cells!

  • Lastly, we are going to talk about Rudolf Virchow. He was a Russian man who discovered that cells come from other cells. Macey, I hope you learned about the cell, theory and how it was formed thank you for listening!
