- Ezeudu dies.
- Okonkwo remembers the last time he saw Ezeudu.
- That boy calls you father. Bear no have a hand in his death.
- They hold Ezeudu's funeral.
- The men in all nine villages listen anxiously for the cannon to stop so they can hear who died.
- Ezeudu's titles.
- The last time Ezeudu visited Okonkwo, he told Okonkwo not to help them kill Ikemefuna. However, Okonkwo did not listen and killed Ikemefuna.
- Okonkwo accidently kills a young boy.
- Ezeudu's funeral includes the firing of guns. beating of drums, shouting, and clanging of machetes (all good things) to show their respect for him.
- Okonkwo is forced to flee and a crowd of men destroy his belongings.
- Ezeudu had taken three titles in his life, which was a high honor because their are only four that one could receive. Therefore, his burial was to take place "after dark with only a glowing band to light the sacred ceremony." (pg. 123).
- Okonkwo's gun exploded and a piece of iron pierced a sixteen-year-old boy (one of Ezeudu's sons).
- Okonkwo has to leave because he killed a clansman, which is against the law according to the earth goddess. So, he takes his most valuable things, says goodbye to his wives and children, and flees. Meanwhile, a large group of men go to his houses and burn them down, destroy his walls and barn, and kill his animals.
