- General Edward Braddock arrived in Virginia as a commander of British forces in North America. He selected George Washington, and on their way back to Fort Duquesne, they were attacked by French people and their Native American allies. braddock was killed but Washington lived. This sparked the French and Indian War, or the Seven Years War.
