  • 1804 - Lewis and Clark
  • 4 out of 5 stars. Pretty sights and lots of game but poopy water.
  • 1806 - Zebulon Pike
  • Poopy water = Poopy land
  • The Louisiana Purchase was bought for $15 million from the French. It doubled the size of the United States.
  • 1819 - Stephen H. Long
  • Yep, looks like a desert to me.
  • Lewis & Clark were famous explorers who explored the east and spent some time in Kansas; they said that you could cultivate it. They spent 123 miles of 8,000 in Kansas.
  • 1829 - Jackson's Speech
  • Should we let stinky people have that land? No!
  • Pike explored part of Kansas and said it was worthless. He was also the first American to travel the territory by land.
  • 1830 - Indian Removal Act
  • Meanies!
  • Long travelled by steamboat. He also labelled Kansas as 'The Great American Desert'.
  • Andrew Jackson convinced the government to pass the Indian Removal Act. He called the Native Americans "savages".
  • East Native Americans were forced to move to reservations. Tensions rose and the tribes did not normally have much contact.
