- During the early years of the mid 19th century, White Americans demanded for Native American lands. This resulted in something called the reservation policy. EaCH Tribe was given a small piece of land that they had to be on. They were not really given a choice in the treaties given to the and had benefited the Whites than it did the Indians.
- The Indian tribes were damaged even more because the American's killed the bison around these lands which was something that was a vital part of the Indian's lives. Buffalo gave Indians, source and supplies to defend themselves.

- Indian resistance started to become more and more common. An example of this resistance would be the Battle of Little Bighorn where tribal Warriors surprised and surrounded Colonel George a Custer and his regiment and killed all of them. Whites also attacked like the Sand Creek Massacre where a Cheyenne band camp near Fort Lyon was on Sand Creek with no harm in mind. Colonel JM Chivington led an armed force to the area and killed 133 Indians.

- Lots of Native Americans become more religious and this led to a revival in religion. An example of a prophet that some had turned to was Wovoka. This movement spread from Nevada to the plains. Another aspect of this revival were Ghost Dances which had visions of white people giving back land and Buffalo coming back.
- On 12-29-1890, More than 350 Sioux Indians were gathered in wounded Knee, SD. Guns were shot and over 300 Indians ended up dying while only 40 whites died.
