  • Leonardo da Vinci
  • I, Leonardo da Vinci, have lived in Florence, Italy since the year 1452. I have always had a very curious mind and interest in inventing new things. As my city experienced the Florence Renaissance, I represented the Renaissance ideal and adapted with the people around me. I focused strongly on individual achievement and tried to solve worldly issues instead of religious ones, which had occupied the minds of Medieval times.

  • This is my work, The Last Supper, which shows Christ and the 12 apostles before Christ's crucifixion. This piece of work makes me a humanist because I used new knowledge of perspective and human anatomy to make both the landscape and people look more realistic. Also, I showed a variety of facial expressions on each of the apostles, allowing viewers to think about the meaning of each expression and look beneath the surface of the painting.

  • Humanism was an intellectual movement that focused on worldly issues instead of religious ones and was based on individual achievement. I was one of the many great artists that emerged from the Florentine Renaissance. I am a humanist because I focused on my personal goals and achievements and was always trying to learn new things through art, architecture, music, and even human anatomy.
  • Shakespeare
  • I, William Shakespeare, live in Warwickshire, England. I have been writing magnificent plays from 1590-1613 that have been viewed and performed around the world. My pieces of literature have enriched the English language and brought much new knowledge. My pieces help readers and performers learn more about English literature and human emotion, through both comedies and tragedies
  • This is my work, Romeo and Juliet, in which two teenagers share a forbidden love that is not allowed by either family. This piece of work makes me a humanist because Romeo and Juliet are focusing on what they want for themselves and their own self-improvement. Also, the two teenagers go against family tradition, similar to the way that the Renaissance went against the beliefs of Medieval Europeans.
  • Humanism was an intellectual movement that focused on worldly issues instead of religious ones and enforced individual achievement. I am a humanist because I focused on reviving literature and brought new knowledge to people around the world. I emphasized different themes and helped promote both education, through the use of new words, and classical learning. I believe education is essential and that the best way to solve a problem and grow is to simply THINK.
