  • Creon comes after hearing that Oedipus accused Creon of getting Tiresias to lie to Oedipus so that he could take the crown. Creon adamantly states that he is not after the crown and that Oedipus is angry and crazy. They argue and Creon says to Oedipus that he should ask the oracle of Delphi whether he is lying, and then Jocasta comes and halts the argument.
  • After Creon leaves, Jocasta and Oedipus argue about what happened between him and Creon, and Jocasta reveals that there was a child King Laius threw out with his ankles riveted together. She then describes how Laius left out of Thebes. Oedipus realizes that this means he could be the murderer, but as long as the story is that King Laius was attacked by a band of men and not just one man, he would be fine.
  • Jocasta goes to the altar of Apollo and prays for Oedipus when a messenger arrives and states that King Polybus has just died of natural causes. This means that the prophecy that was placed on Oedipus could not be true.
