- Samuel Adams was a member of the Sons of Liberty in Boston.They made a unified protest to Britain.They demanded that the tax be repealed. A year later Parliamentrepealed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act Congress gave thecolonists a model for the Continental Congress.

- Patrick Henry spoke out against theStamp Act. He made several speechesthat helped inspire the colonists toprotest against the tax. Henry wasaccused of treason by the Britishgovernment for his strong opinions andinspirational speeches.

- British Parliament still needed moneyafter the Stamp Act was repealed. Theypassed another law taxing the colonies.The man who was in charge of KingGeorge’s finances, Charles Townshend,suggested some new laws that mightbenefit England. These laws becameknown as the Townshend Acts.

Thesecommittees consisted of groups of men who communicatedimportant political events by letter.Men on horses deliveredthese letters to the thirteen colonial governments down theAtlantic coastline to share with the people.
