  • This is an example of man vs man because it's Elisse and the Guard having a conflict. Elise is about to get hit by the guard for snooping.

  • This is man vs self because Elie fights with himself to keep marching even though is foot hurts. He knows that he can't stop walking or else he will be shot, so he fights through the pain with himself to stay alive.

  • "An infinitely long train composed of roofless cattle cars. The SS shoved us inside, a hundred per car: we were so skinny!" (Wiesel 97).
  • In this part of the book, Elie is rebelling against God for what he has done to the jews. He begins to lose faith in God and doesn't understand why he would put this group of people through this much pain.
  • In this part Elie's father has told him he can't fall asleep in the snow or else he will die. This is man vs nature because the weather conditions are not what they can be without Elie having to fight for his life.
  • This is man vs society when the Germans did not like the Jews and believed they were bad people. There were originally 80 people in a cattle car but they got so skinny, from not eating as much as they used to they could fit 100 in a cattle car.
