  • On August 24 1814, Britain attacked Washington D.C setting the Capital and The White House on fire. The only reason they left is because there was a storm/tornado happening.
  • Many British troops were captured and Tecumseh was killed, destroying his Indian alliance and breaking the Indian power in the Ohio and Indiana territories. After this battle, most of the tribes abandoned their association with the British. After destroying Moraviantown, a village of Christian Indians, the U.S. troops returned to Detroit. The U.S. victory helped catapult Harrison into the national limelight and eventually the presidency.
  • Master Commandant Perry's fleet nine ships engaged six British warships under capt. A ship that Perry was on became a wreck so they switched into the sister ship and it sailed directly into the British line firing broadsides and forcing its surrender. The British lost 40 men with 94 wounded. The Americans, 27 killed and 96 wounded. The destruction of the British squadron on Lake Erie reversed its course of the northwest campaign and forced British to abandon Detroit.
