  • Power over Rome is ours!
  • We will not return until we get power!
  • The Rise of the Roman RepublicA Plebeians Perspective
  • From now and on we agree to write down laws.
  • In 509 BCE, the patricians drove out the Etruscan's and their king, only after to take the power for them selves. Those greedy patricians filled with lust for power decided to take all the power for and not even give us plebeians a cent of power. There so called "republic" was filled with corruption made sure that they held all the power while my family and I, as well as the other plebeians were forced to obey. Worst of all, laws were not written down so the evil patricians could write down laws and change laws to their own will and benefit themselves.
  • For every 2 consuls, 1 must be plebeian.
  • In 494 BCE, after years of suffering under the cruel rule of the patricians us hard working plebeians sought for a voice. We had been fighting wars for the patricians, dying in the battlefield only for no power in return. In great numbers we camped at a hill and did not return until the patricians met our demands. After work had stopped, our revolt had struck fear into the patricians, with none of us the army would be helpless so the patricians were forced to compromise with us.
  • I a plebeian, declare that I will be passing down a law to people both plebeian and patrician.
  • We still had little power even after compromising with the patricians. Although we had Tribunes and Plebs representing us, still the patricians held the majority of the power. The corrupt patricians could change laws at their own will making in unfair for us plebeians. In 451 BCE we demanded a law which would force the patricians to write down laws and they had agreed, we had won the political battle.
  • We continued to gain political power over the next years. In 367 BCE, another monumental law that would change the history of the Roman Republic. Now every 1 of 2 consuls must be a plebeian, this allowed us to have a even number of plebeians and patricians expanding our power and allowing plebeians to be in the Senate. Our glorious conquest for power was slowly growing.
  • In 287 BCE, us plebeians had won our most important victory, plebeians had the power to pass laws for all Roman citizens. This allowed plebeian assemblies to elect tribunes, consults, and members of the Senate. This law also allowed us to pass laws and deny. Us hardworking plebeians after many year of unfair treatment and unbalanced power came out as victorious.
