- Alright Eve, let's get started. Today we will be starting a new unit in history!
- During the 5th and 6th century, the power of the Roman Empire started to decline. Western Europe entered the Middle Ages, during this transition to the Middle Ages, there was a decline in trade and intellectual living.
- The once united and powerful Roman Empire was replaced by small kingdoms that were often at war with each other over land. Due to the chaos, kings, lords, knights, and peasant made agreements to create a system for defense.
- ..The high middle ages, also known as the Renaissance. This was when Medieval Europe was at it’s peak, right after the Dark Ages.
- Everyday is the same for me. Since I'm homeschooled, each day I head to the basement of my home to listen to my mom's lectures on geometry, english, biology, and history. History is by far our favorite subject, it's so interesting to learn about the past!
- You know what? Why don’t we go on a trip to Medieval Europe?

- Today mom decided to introduce me to Developments in Europe, because after the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe went through many changes and developments.

- My mom explained that the only thing that stayed powerful through all of this was the Roman Catholic Church. But things started to change between the years 1000 and 1450! There was a revival of trade, learning, and art! People wanted to learn! This change is referred to as the high Middle Ages, or to some the Renaissance. The Middle Ages are known for the great scholars that sometimes criticized the ways of the church. For example Peter Abelard, he studied classical thinkers like Aristotle, like many scholars did.
- Suddenly, my mom stopped speaking and thought for a moment before suggesting the unthinkable.
- Suddenly a portal opened in the middle of the living room, and my mom jumped right in! How is this even happening?
- I don't know if this is a dream or a nightmare, I guess we'll have to find out!
