- The setting outside is a dank warm tropical night with bushes and a Jaguar Rainsford trying to hunt and his friends trying to help these details are important to show where he is at and what he is doing.
- Emotions-Rainsford is a little hesitate because he can't see that well but his friend Whitney gives him so encouragement, she brought up how good he his. He couldn't really see well. Whitney starts to feel bad for the jaguar.
- Dialogue- They are discussing the bad feeling they are having. Whitney is telling Rainford about the sailors and how she got a bad feeling and how the worst things have happened on this island.
- Irony- He thought everything was fine it was so dark he could just fall asleep but soon got scared by a loud noise
- External conflict- He went to see if he could see what's going on so he went to the rail, then he was knocked by rope, he lost his balance and he tried to scream but struggled to the surface. But he swam and swam until he reach a rocky shore and had the deepest sleep. he soon saw a boat and they helped him and told him about themselves and what they are doing.
- Theme- As Rainsford thought he could trust him they lead him into more trouble and getting more hurt so the theme was don't always trust someone and expect a good out come and be more cautious about people and your surroundings, and either go for it and see the outcome or give up because Rainsford had to go through a lot but he ended up wining at the end.
