- Setting- The story takes place in Bronx, New York. The story is usually on a local baseball field or in Michael's apartment. At the end, they play at Yankee Stadium.
- Main Characters-Michael Arroyo is the main character and lead pitcher for the Clippers.Carlos Arroyo is Michael's older brother who takes care of him since their Dad died.Papi is Carlos and Michael's Dad. He had a heart attack and diedManny Cabrera is Michael's best friend and catcher for the Clippers.Ellie Garcia Gonzalez is Michael's friend and crush. She is El Grande's daughter. El Grande is the star pitcher for the Yankees.Uncle Timo is Manny's uncle who pretends to be Michael's Dad.Ms. Cora is Michael's neighbor. She promised his Dad when he died that she would keep his death a secret and help care for Michael and Carlos.Mr Gibbs is the man who works for Social Services and wants to make sure Michael's Dad didn't just leave him.
- Plot- Micheal is a pitcher for the Clippers Little League Baseball Team in New York. His Papi died from a heart attack. He asked Mrs Cora to keep his death a secret because he doesn't want Carlos and Michael to be separated. Papi's dream for Michael was for him to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA and Michael was hoping to do that. Michael met Ellie Garcia, who is El Grande's daughter. El Grande is Michael's favorite baseball player. Michael and Ellie become good friends. Michael thinks his dream is over when Justin and his Dad try to keep him from playing anymore.
- Conflict-Justin's Dad, who is a coach on another team, wrote a letter and got other coaches to sign it saying they did not think Michael was 12. He could not play until he found his birth certificate and proved he was 12. Michael was mad and did not know if he'd be able to play again. Michael wanted to play and win the tournament more than anything and he was very mad that they were trying to stop him from playing.Solution-Manny called and told Ellie all about Papi dying and Michael not being able to find his birth certificate. El Grande still knew people in Havana so he was able to get Michael's birth certificate. El Grande and Ellie bring him his birth certificate and he is able to start pitching again in the middle of a game. Justin and his Dad were on the other team and they were very mad because they thought they would have a better chance of winning without Michael playing. Michael's team was able to win the game. They would be able to play their next game at Yankee Stadium.
- Thank you for finding my birth certificate!
- Conclusion- Michael was finally able to go inside Yankee Stadium. El Grande showed him everything. Michael was able to put all of his stuff in El Grande's locker. El Grande told Michael there were many ghosts in the Stadium. The Clippers took the field. Michael knew while he was on that field pitching that his father was a ghost there and he could hear him saying "Now you're pitching." He had heard a lot of cheers coming from Yankee Stadium but tonight they were for him.
- I really liked thisbook. It was really fun and interesting to read. Michael loved baseball and it made him happy. Even when he couldn't play he found a way to be a part of it. This shows you should never give up on what you really want to do.
