  • "There's Connecticut colony, you've come a long way to see it
  • "Just the pinnaces in the islands. I've sailed on those all my life."
  • "Ever been on a ship before?"
  • Mummy mummy! Get me my doll!
  • No I will not! Do you know how hard your grandfather worked to get that doll for you?!?!
  • On the morning in mid-April 1687 Kit who is a girl from Barbados, has finally made it to the Connecticut colony. She was on a ship called the Dolphin. A man talks to Kit and happens to be the Captain's son.
  • You must be daft!
  • Oh thank you! Thank you!
  • Kit talks to the Captain's son who is named Nathaniel Eaton, Nat for short. Nat asks Kit if she has ever been on a ship before. Kit says that she has only been to the small pinnaces in the islands of Barbados.
  • Kit hears a young girl down in the hallway yelling for her mom to get her toy back. The mom is mad at her and hurts her. She then says that her grandpa went through a lot to get her that doll.
  • When kit goes for the doll, she comes out all wet and the people think that she is daft. They say this because they think she is crazy to ruin her nice clothes just to save that girls doll. They also think she is a witch because she knows how to swim, and says she was taught as soon as she learned how to walk.
  • Kit sees the young girl snuggling her doll and feeling very happy and thankful because of kit. She then sees a man in a black hat come up to her.
  • The man in the black hat walks up to her and says that his name is John Holbrook, and says he is going to Wethersfield as well. Kit is going to see her aunt and John says he has never seen her before and asks if Matthew Wood is her uncle. She says Yes but has never seen him before. She then says what she does was foolish to save the girl's doll.
