  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Don't judge a book by its cover
  • In "The Monsters are due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is don't judge a book by its cover. My first reason why I think this is the theme is because on page 75 and 76 it shows that Les Goodman's car starts up all by itself without him being near it.As soon as this happens they all start to blame him for being the monster and start calling him an oddball. They all start to circle around him and Don starts to yell at him that nothing on the street is working but his car and barley gives him a chance to explain that he is not the monster. My next reason is that Steve was working on a radio in the basement that nobody has seen besides his wife.Charlie and Don started to question Steve on what radio he was working on and who he talks to and who talks to him. This shows that if they gave him a chance to explain in the first place then there would’ve been no accusations. My lost and final reason is when Charlie shot the “dark figure” which turned out to be Les Goodman
