- In 1519 Pineda set out from Jemaca to map the Gulf of Mexico. He was the first European to observe the coast. He didnt finish his mission because Hornan Cortes saw him and his men as a threat and arrested them.

- In 1519 Cortes was sent to Mexico by the governors of Cuba. Upon arrival The Aztecs viewd Cortes and his men as gods. They soon defeated Aztecs with the help of Aztec enemies and Spanish were able to over throw the Aztecs. That gave them land to use as a base of operations. From this fight riches were found and sent back to Spain. Soon Spain became rich.

- 1526 Cabeza de Vaca was exploring Florida until he got lost. He built his own boat but got caught in a hurricane and ship wrecked on Galveston Island. He got helped from Indian tribes and to maintain peace they used their knowledge of healing. After arriving in Mexico he told of a fabled city of gold. He also was the First European trader.

- Cornado and 1000 men went to find the city of gold. They never found it but found the Grand Canyon and The Pacific Ocean.
- La Salle was know for exploring the Mississippi river. Landing in Matagorda bay they built a fort and tried to make friendships. Failing to make friendships and his men dieing of drought and disease La Salle left to get supplies from Mexico. While he was got the fort was attacked. So when he got back he and his men all left for French Canada.
