  • Do you know the famous skeleton detective? Sherlock Bones, and today we're going to investigate the facts about the musculoskeletal system with Sherlock Bones.
  •
  • The musculoskeletal system provides shape, balance and movement to the body. This body system consists of your bones, muscles, ligaments, cartilage, joints and tendons.
  •
  • Your body has over 600 muscles that have multiple jobs and one of those is protecting your internal organs. They also help with the digestive system as the smooth muscles like the stomach helps the digestive system in the process of digesting food.
  •
  • At birth, the human body contains around 300 bones. But as the developed the bones unite together through the process of ossification reducing the amount of bones to 206. Skeletons help provide shape to your body and provents your body from being unstable.
  •
  • Voluntary muscles are muscles that automatically function without having to think about it. Voluntary muscles include smooth muscles which is apart of the digestion process. Think of them as a reflex because reflexes happen naturally and it's something that you can't control just like these muscles.
  • Involuntary muscles are basically manual muscles rather than automatic muscles. Involuntary muscles include your limbs like your arms and legs. They don't move on their own like your heart or lungs do making them manual because you have to "move" it by yourself.
