  • The Romans owned and ruled the land on the Italian peninsula before the Punic Wars.
  •  Carthage owned part of Northern Africa, Southern Spain, and some of the islands in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The first Punic war was a naval battle, which Charthage had an advantage. The war ended with a win from the Romans, and a gain of power over the islands once owned by Carthage.
  • The second Punic War took place in the Alps, and the Phoenicians rode elephants around the west side of the Mediterranean until war happened in the Alps, also resulting in a Roman victory.
  • The Third Punic War took place in Carthage. The Romans attacked Carthage by burning down the city and taking soldiers and citizens and selling them as slaves. This was the last of the Punic wars and a brutal one.
  • The Punic Wars resulted in a victory for Rome. The victory for Rome resulted in the fall of Carthage, fall of the Roman Republic, and the rise of the Roman Empire. Rome also gained lots of land and power as a result.
