  • President Jefferson was looking to expand U.S territory, and seeing how desperate France was for money, decided to buy a large mass of land for very cheap. This event doubled the size of U.S territory and was marked as one of the best deals of all time.

  • Lewis and Clark went on an 800 mile journey and spent 123 miles in Kansas. From what Lewis and Clark could see they said that Kansas had a "Good variety of Game." Lewis and Clark noted that Kansas had lot of potential .

  • Zebulon Pike decided that from his time in Kansas that it was bare and nothing but a desert, even going as far as comparing Kansas to the deserts of Africa.

  • President Jackson encouraged the removal of Natives and called them savages running around on his land. Jackson believed that for his people to thrive he had to get rid of others.
  • Do to the Descriptions of Pike and Long, President Jackson did not think that the land would be suitable for Americans and forced Eastern Indians to move away from their land. Indians lives were "unfamiliar and harder than necessary."
