- Uuum I remember that It began with the invasion of Kuwait led by Saddam Hussein
- But we know that Kuwait attained its independence before the reign of Iraq.
- Yeah Saddam hussein wanted the oil reserves in kuwait ,he justified the invasion by claiming that Kuwait belonged to Iraq in the first place

- We will help remind you. So the UN opted to make financial sanctions to get rid of Iraq in Kuwait but it did not work. Then they set a deadline for Iraq to leave Kuwait or else they face military action. But Hussein was not fazed

- And by February 28,1991 Iraq had surrendered. The war resulted in liberation of Kuwait but also led to the uprisings by Kurds and sh'ites in Iraq. The war left significant damage to Kuwait and Iraq and the ongoing tension with Iraq
- well after he refused to leave Kuwait a coalition of countries led by the US ,came together to defend Kuwait and make Iraq leave.this was called operation desert shield
- then on January 17,1991 the coalition launched a massive air campaign called operation desert storm
